Rediff, April 6, 1998:
Janata Party president Dr Subramanian Swamy on Sunday criticised Prime Minister A B Vajpayee for defending the Rashtriya Swayamsevek Sangh, and urged him and his Cabinet colleagues to desist from praising the organisation.
Talking to newsmen in Madras, he said Vajpayee's defence of the RSS would only imply that the government had a "hidden agenda". Moreover, it would also erode the authority of the prime minister's office.
If the prime minister, who heads a coalition government, praises the RSS, then others in the front have the right to criticise it for its negative role in the 1942 Quit India movement, the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi, subversion of the anti-Emergency struggle and the demolition of the Babri Masjid, he said.
Referring to the reported remarks of RSS general secretary H V Seshadri that the organisation would seek to remote-control the Vajpayee government, Dr Swamy said the RSS could not run a parallel government, and this was not acceptable.

Indian Express, April 20,1999: On Dr Swamy, he said he had submitted 20 pieces of circumstantial evidence to the Jain Commission, which went into the assassination of RajivGandhi, raising strong suspicion of the Janata Party chief's complicity in the murder of the former Prime Minister. The Jain Commission had also commented in its report that Dr Swamy did not cooperate with it. ``He (Dr Swamy) should be booked in public interest...He deserves to be arrested and investigated''.
Indian Express, Aug 30, 1998: "Since Jethmalani is promoting the cause of rich builders and estate agents at the cost of the poor masses, he should either step down from the minister's post or be dismissed by the Prime Minister. He should also be prosecuted under the Prevention of Corruption Act by the CBI,'' Swamy added. He also alleges that Jethmalani had committed an error of commission in the M S Shoes land scam, which necessitated a detailed investigation by the CBI. Jethmalani had reportedly passed an `unprecedented order' restoring the land worth Rs 350 crore to M S Shoes Ltd, owned by Pawan Sachdeva. Calling the BJP government "a disaster'', Swamy said Opposition secular forces would seek to form a government after the outcome of forthcoming Assembly elections in four states.

Bhopal: Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy on Tuesday said he would like to welcome social activist Anna Hazare to work with him sans his team members. "I would like to work with Hazare but cannot think of working with Team Anna members," Swamy said during an informal interaction with reporters here.
When asked by media persons if he would like to join the BJP to take on the Congress, Swamy quipped it was up to the party to decide whether they want him in or not. "I know that I am not an easy person to be tolerated by any political party," he quickly added. Responding to a query on the recent arrest of two Italian marines for killing two Indian fishermen, the 73-year-old leader alleged, "The arrested duo is spending time in a guest house and not in jail as they should have been".http://zeenews.india.com/news/nation/hazare-minus-team-anna-is-welcome-with-me-swamy_759794.html
But who all are willing to work with Dr.Swamy?

When Swamy called him(Kanshi Ram) his guru and predicted that she( Mayawati) would one day become PM!
Subramanian Swamy sought to use the occasion of B.R. Ambedkar's birth anniversary celebration in New Delhi on April 14, when a book and a cassette on Mayawati were released, to persuade the Bahujan Samaj Party to go along with the rest of the Opposition. Subramanian Swamy called Kanshi Ram his guru and predicted that Mayawati would one day become Prime Minister. He claimed that he was invited to the function by BSP leaders, and that it was a signal that the BSP would vote against the Government.
Why do you think the BJP has so much animus towards you?
I don't think it is the BJP, really. The BJP is only a front organisation. It is not a political party. It is really the RSS, and your question should be actually: Why is the RSS against me? Frankly, it's not surprising. We have been at daggers drawn ever since the members of theerstwhile Jan Singh flouted the oath they took in Rajghat in March 1977 that they would never leave the Janata Party -- and then, promptly, left the Janata Party and went on to form the Bharatiya Janata Party!
I did not follow them like cattle. This angered them. They have this culture that anyone who parts company with them must be driven out of public life. In fact, before they left they told me directly that they would do to me what they had done to Balraj Madhok, Manoharlal Sondhi, Pitambar Das and others -- they gave me a list of some seven names of people who were at the height of their power with them and were destroyed and driven out of public life. Well, they have been at it for the last 18 years and suddenly I cannot expect them to swallow all that and accept failure. And not only accept failure but also accommodate me as a Cabinet minister in their own government!
Why is your personal relationship with Vajpayee so bitter?
It has now improved. From reverse gear it has become neutral.
It is wrong to say that Vajpayee is bitterly against me. It is the RSS which is most bitterly against me. They want to finish me off. They don't realise that I am indestructible.

This week brings a cover story in Outlook magazine, accompanied by an interview with his wife. It covers all the usual ground – extreme rhetoric, Emergency-era shenanigans, anti-Muslim agenda, etc – but offers this interesting theory about his long-standing feud with home minister P Chidaambaram
“According to a recent article by Punjab Kesri journalist GS Chawla, the rift between Swamy and his ‘student’ at Harvard originated in the HD Deve Gowda government in the mid-1990s. Chidambaram was finance minister then. Writes Chawla: “People do not know that Subramanian Swamy has been close to the controversial godman Chandraswami and Dr Prathap Reddy of Apollo hospital. All of them were members of a trust founded by Chandraswami. The enforcement directorate had found serious irregularities in the accounts of the trust in which some foreign currency was deposited. The finance ministry planned to act against all the three trustees.”
The Kesri article alleges that Chidu refused to back down even after one of the trustees approached former Attorney-General G Ramaswamy to broker a rappochement. In the end, former Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar had to intervene to ensure that Deve Gowda stopped the proceedings.
The 2G scandal, hence, offered an excellent opportunity to settle this long-standing grudge http://www.firstpost.com/politics/subramanian-swamy-uncovered-doting-wife-leftist-brother-and-more-212638.html

"it was widely thought that I would be made a Cabinet Minister for my role in the Emergency, but Atal Behari Vajpayee, who had played a disgraceful role of writing an apology letter to Mrs.Gandhi during the Emergency - to come out on parole out of jail, - controlled 91 Jan Sangh MPs. Vajpayee was given to tremendous jealousy, and it is the root cause of the mess BJP is in today. He found my "Emergency Hero" status unbearable especially since he wanted to hide his own surrender shame. He therefore prevailed upon Morarji to offer me only a Minister of State with independent charge."
"Because of the factionalism in the Janata Party, during his tenure as PM, he could not make me a Cabinet Minister. Delhi was always abuzz with the rumour that he was about to induct me as Foreign Minister because he was fed up with Vajpayee's drinking habits whenever he went abroad or his indiscretion with women.
"Provoked by what he mistakenly took as Morarji induced insults, Charan Singh broke the party, and the Janatha Party lost majority. Then Vajpayee and Hegde produced a list of 279 MPs of which 23 MPs signatures were forged. The President Mr.Sanjiva Reddy was alerted to it by the IB, and he made it public. Morarji gallantly took the blame and quit public life. It should have been Vajpayee and Hegde who should have quit, but they left Morarji holding the bag and owning responsibility!"
When Morarji died, he saved my life. Strange as it may seem, I was driving in last week of April 1995 to Pondicherry to address a public meeting. At Tindivanam, a huge crowd was waiting for me to with petrol bombs and acid filled eggs. They were planning to stop my car and set it on fire, thereby roasting me to death. The crowd was AIADMK sponsored, and they were particularly angry at my getting sanction to prosecute their leader, Ms.Jayalalitha. They wanted to prove their loyalty to her.I had no idea that this mob was waiting for me, since as usual the Tamilnadu Police had disappeared from Tindivanam. As my car was speeding towards Tindivanam, in a small town about 10 Kms away, a few people blocked my car to give me the news that Morarji Desai had passed away.
I immediately told Chandralekha who was travelling with me, that I must return and catch a flight to Bombay. My party people accompanying me and Chandralekha thought that since a huge crowd would be waiting in Pondicherry to hear my speech, I should fulfil that commitment first. I could pass a condolence resolution in that meeting, they suggested. But my emotional attachment to Morarji was deep. Therefore I insisted on cancelling the programme and returning right away. When I reached Chennai three hours later there was an urgent call from Dr.Chenna Reddy, from Pondicherry. There was real concern in his voice. I thought he was calling about Morarji, but he asked me: "Are you alright?" I said yes but asked him why. He replied "Thank God! There was an AIADMK mob ready to murder you, burn you alive. Thank God you did not go to Tindivanam". http://janataparty.org/articledetail.asp?rowid=10

In an interview to a newspaper, Swamy said since LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam) was an anti-India outfit and President Rajapaksa’s government eliminated it, he deserves India’s highest honour.
Swamy also hit out at “Sonia Gandhi and her Italian family” for providing covert support to the LTTE.
Swamy said he would continue his tirade against Congress president Sonia Gandhi whom he described as liar. He said she was behind the missing of old paintings in Rajasthan, which fetched exorbitant price during auction in western countries. He claimed that revelation made by him about Sonia Gandhi in the past had played a major in her not becoming Prime Minister of the country.http://www.dailypioneer.com/nation/41501-determined-to-fight-on-against-pc-says-swamy.html

"Jayalalitha owes her political existence to me. In '91, I was instrumental in toppling the Karunanidhi government and paving the way for her to become chief minister. But she ditched me. Again, in '98, by aligning with her, I helped her regain moral authority. People were willing to forgive her because I, her principal foe till then, joined hands with her. When she was desperate for an alliance with the Congress, I organised the tea party and brought her and Sonia Gandhi closer. Today she's dumped me and will pay a huge political price for this. Swamy claimed that Pakistan's ISI has information on black money stashed abroad by Indian politicians and that this was the reason why India hasn't been taking a tough stand on cross-border terrorism. "It is exactly for this reason that those in power are hemming and hawing on the issue of sending Afzal Guru and Ajmal Kasab to gallows,'' he said. don't speak without evidence. This has been my record. However, I need not furnish proof to you,'' he retorted when a media-person asked him if he had proof of Indian politicians being blackmailed by the ISI on the hawala issue. http://articles.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/2012-02-06/mumbai/31030059_1_subramanian-swamy-hawala-issue-black-money
So where and from whom did Swamy gather such proofs?
From News Archives, July 2011: FBI arrests Pakistani-American Nabi Fai on charges of secretly funneling at least $4 million from Pakistan's top spy agency ISI into American political activities, aiming to influence US policy on Kashmir.
Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy on Thursday clarified that when he participated in a seminar in 2003 on Kashmir, organised by an organisation run by U.S.-based Kashmir activist Ghulam Nabi Fai, he was unaware that Dr. Fai was an “undercover agent of a foreign power.” In a statement, Dr. Swamy said he delivered an address on Kashmir in the seminar held in the U.S. Senate Building in Washington in the summer of 2003. At that time, he was teaching economics at the Harvard University. He had checked with the Indian Embassy about the organisers and was told that ‘it was an anti-Indian gathering but not that it was ISI-inspired.” Dr. Swamy said his friends also did not know that Dr. Fai was working for the ISI but had assumed that a meeting at the Senate Building would not have been permitted without security clearance. He had, however, requested the Embassy to send an official with him to take notes and for consultations. His speech had since been published in the print media in India and that it made the point Kashmir was part of India. “It is impossible to know unless briefed who is an undercover agent of a foreign power.”http://www.thehindu.com/news/national/article2282617.ece

You said she tried to murder you 12 times. Is she really that mean?
I don't know. I have not discussed these matters with her.
But you did feel that way about her?
It is possible that people around her who have left her now, may have tried to do all that. When in power, they become extraordinarily lonely. They do not know what is going on. For example, Indira Gandhi did not know how many people were arrested during the Emergency. She told me, she did not know. There were two attempts to murder me then, one in London and the other in Boston. But she said she never knew about it.
How does Jayalalitha appear to you now?
I have not met her that often to answer this question. She strikes me as an extraordinarily intelligent person. She grasps things fast. She has a temper, there's no question about that. Right now, we have cordial relations"
What exactly did she do to you?
She tried to murder me twelve times.
Yes, murder me, basically liquidate me. You must be new to Madras, or you just go through the old paper cuttings. She tried to burn me alive in a car, mobs attacked me, she tried to have me put in jail under TADA and made arrangements for people inside the jail to finish me off inside the jail.In fact, the Supreme Court, after seeing all this, gave me an order which in the history of the democratic world, no supreme court has given. They said, any warrant issued by any court in any part of Tamil Nadu can only be served on me in Madras and upon serving, and my handing a personal bond in writing of hundred rupees, I have to be set out on bail. This is an unprecedented order.
Were you scared?
I have never been scared. I am not scared of you journalists. Then, why should I be scared of murder?

I believe that since 1995 Sonia Gandhi and (Prime Minister) Atal Bihari Vajpayee reached a deal which I should have known (about), but did not. That's how the 1999 toppling of the Bharatiya Janata Party government, which I organized, failed to bring about an alternative government. I think Sonia's deal with Vajpayee entails that as long as he is prime minister, she will not make any efforts to topple him unless she can come in his place. The deal is to protect each other. I can say very clearly that the prime minister and Congress chief share a lot of secrets. They are also engaged in many deals on which neither side is willing to speak up.
Frontline, Volume 16 - Issue 9, Apr. 24 - May. 07, 1999
Subramanian Swamy, the Janata Party MP from Madurai in Tamil Nadu, is credited with having catalysed the fall of the Vajpayee Government through his deft political moves. In an interview he gave V. Venkatesan in New Delhi, Swamy commended the role of the three women politicians - Jayalalitha, Sonia Gandhi and Mayawati - for the defeat of the Government. Excerpts:
What was your role in the collapse of the Vajpayee Government?
It was a massive operation in which many people had many roles. It is for others to talk about my role. What they perceive is good enough for me.
How would you explain the April 17 vote?
It is a happy ending. Industrial houses, some multinationals, and of course, George Fernandes, (Ram) Jethmalani, the PMK, the MDMK and various rebel groups such as the LTTE, the Tibetan secessionists and the Myanmar rebels, had a self-interest in the survival of the Government; a massive combination of corrupt industrialists, terrorists, and an immoral and ruthless RSS. Three people made the maximum contribution - Jayalalitha, Sonia Gandhi and Mayawati, in that order. Jayalalitha staked her entire political and physical future. She was in the Government and she sacrificed that position. She ran the risk of opposing the Government. Had the attempt to bring down the Government failed, there would have been DMK participation in the blood-thirsty, ruthless, fascist Government in Delhi. She was immune to the offers by corrupt industrialists. She was incensed by the sacking of Vishnu Bhagwat. It was purely a patriotic reaction, and had nothing to do with the dismissal of the DMK Government in Tamil Nadu or the (corruption) cases against her. She is doing quite fine as far as the cases are concerned. And she has issued a statement saying that the dismissal of the DMK Government was not an issue.
Sonia Gandhi lent a helping hand. Had she not turned up for the tea party that I hosted, the entire plan would have collapsed. But despite the advice of people close to her, she kept her own counsel and acted.
Mayawati's was a case of political bravery. Going by the rates mentioned, the five BSP MPs, according to the gossip mill, would have been entitled to Rs.50 crores. She had no stakes, in the sense that there is no love lost between her and the Congress(I) and the BJP. She was against the BJP continuing in power. She resisted the pressure that was brought to bear on her, including threats against the Scheduled Castes in Uttar Pradesh and the offer of chief ministership. They were willing to offer any price, but she resisted. She is a brave lady.
But Mayawati has denied that the BJP made any offers.
Well, there was no need to. The BJP had no nerve to contact her directly. Rangarajan Kumaramangalam approached her in the presence of everybody in the Lok Sabha, and I overheard him offer to fix this or that. I was seated right behind Mayawati.
How did you bring the three women together?
It so happened that I was placed in a position to do so. I have been Jayalalitha's loyal ally. And I am known to the three women personally. They think I am fair and straightforward. That's why I was able to talk to them. Ultimately each of them was motivated by the national interest. They should get the lion's share of the credit.
You have also been Jayalalitha's bitter critic.
She was in power then. I was in the Opposition. There was no personality clash. Vajpayee is on record as having called Prakash Singh Badal a terrorist.

Dr.Swamy who had earlier survived 12 assassination bids of Puratchi Thalaivi (Jaya Amma ) has now revealed that Sonia too attempted on his life not once but twice!May god bless him with longer life to entertain his fans!
