When Swamy likened Sonia, Jayalalitha and Mayawati to divinity

"Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy credited the outcome of the confidence vote to "three great ladies" -- Sonia Gandhi, J Jayalalitha and Mayawati -- describing them as Lakshmi, Saraswati and Durga."

Swamy's Secular Patriotic Front - a damp squib

Indian Express, April 29,1998: Swamy said that he now planned to work towards forming a "secular patriotic front" against the BJP and would wait for clearance from AIADMK chief J Jayalalitha to topple the Vajpayee government.

"The BJP is only nominally a political party but in reality it is the political front of the RSS," said Swamy, who has been campaigning against the government ever since he was refused a berth in the ministry.

When Swamy had much respect for Sonia Gandhi

Excerpts from an interview with Swamy dating back to June 2000

Q.Do you meet her?
A.Yes. I am in regular touch. The last I met her was on May 20.

Q.Your rapport has been re-established?
A.The Indian Express people may write anything. But I have the best of relations with her. I have respect for her. She stood by me. I will not tell you anything beyond this. The only thing I can tell you is I told her that what she did in 1999 was wrong.

Whom do you think Swamy was referring to? Not Jayalalitha but Sonia Gandhi.

Do you know anything about the wrong done by her in 1999?In swamy's words "Her betrayal of the opposition cause of forming a secular alternative government in 1999 is known to all". (

Ah!Swamy wanted to dislodge communal government led by Vajpayee and was pissed off at his failure. He must have dreamt of becoming the FM (or even the PM) of 'secular alternative government'

Swamy announces new body against corruption and plunges into action

Oct 15: Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy has formed a new organisation to fight corruption which will support similar movements of Anna Hazare and yoga guru Ramdev. The Action Committee Against Corruption was formed in Chennai to take effective action against corrupt activities within the present legal framework, Swamy said in a statement. Swamy pleads for immediate release of BS Yeddyurappa on bail

"Dr Subramanian Swamy has taken the great trouble of rummaging through old Supreme Court judgments to buttress his demand, made in a public statement, that the former Chief Minister of Karnataka, Mr B.S.Yeddyurappa, arrested on October 15 on corruption charges and lodged in Parappana Agrahara jail in Bangalore should be immediately released on bail, by the Chief Justice himself taking up the bail application at his residence for hearing" ( http://www.thehindubusinessline.com/opinion/columns/b-s-raghavan/article2543465.ece )

'All about Janata Party chief Subramaniam Swamy' - India Today

Subramanian Swamy has only been consistent about one pursuit in life - the desire to bring down elected governments. But now he's basking in the glory of being the unraveller of the 2G scam.

Consistency and credibility have never really been Subramaniam Swamy's virtues. He has accused Sonia Gandhi of smuggling antiques, Harkishan Singh Surjeet of corruption, former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Congress leader Arjun Singh of conspiring to derail the Rajiv Gandhi assassination trial, Vajpayee of getting drunk at an official function, and much more, without ever proving these charges. Yet, Swamy is now in the news for digging up hard evidence exposing the sins of commission and omission of UPA ministers in the 2G spectrum allotment scandal.

Maverick for many, evil incarnate for his detractors, Swamy is the epitome of opportunism in public life.

Swamy believes in alliances of convenience than in everlasting friendships. It could be Sonia Gandhi one day and the RSS the next. All that matters to him, it seems, is his immediate objective. Unlike most politicians of his vintage, Swamy, in his career of four decades in national politics, was never keen to build a constituency or shape an idea. He was always out to get someone, bring down a government or finish off an enemy, even if that enemy was a potential ally.

Now he is a great friend of the Hindutva forces, an avowed soldier of the Sangh Parivar and a true ally of the BJP in his singleminded pursuit of the 2G scamsters. But not long ago, on March 29, 1999, he held a tea party at The Ashok in Delhi, where Sonia Gandhi was his guest of honour. The sole purpose of the party as Jayalalithaa described it then, was to bring down the first Sangh Parivar government at the Centre, which was not even a year old.

Vajpayee is a terribly consistent friend who never forgives his foes. He had fallen out with Swamy when they were together in the Jan Sangh during the Emergency, when Swamy's evasion of arrest gave him a hero's halo. Despite Swamy's Ph.D. from Harvard, his communication skills in English, Hindi and Tamil and his links abroad, the Sangh chose Vajpayee as foreign minister and L.K. Advani as information and broadcasting minister.

Then, ideology never shackled Swamy in his pursuit of power. He soon left the Parivar and ploughed the socialist fields of opportunistic politics in the Gangetic plains with Chandra Shekhar. Though he was the Jan Sangh's Rajya Sabha member from Uttar Pradesh in 1974, and had later won two Lok Sabha polls from Mumbai North- East, he could become a cabinet minister only in 1991, that too briefly in the Chandra Shekhar government, propped up by Rajiv Gandhi's Congress.

So WHEN he won the Madurai seat in 1998 with Jayalalithaa's blessings (see the side story for his innumerable fights and patch-ups with the mercurial matron of Madras), Swamy thought that he would become a powerful minister in the Parivar government. But Vajpayee did not want him anywhere near his cabinet room.

So, Swamy turned secular, organised the tea party, orchestrated the political earthquake, got Jayalalithaa to withdraw support and aligned with Sonia Gandhi to bring the Vajpayee government down, of course, all this over important national issues.

The then defence minister George Fernandes's arbitrary and unreasonable sacking of the navy chief, Admiral Vishnu Bhagwat, came in handy along with allegations of corruption.

It took several years for the prodigal son to return to the Hindutva home, and coincidentally, it happened only after Vajpayee faded away from the Parivar power structure. In late 2006, Subramanian Swamy was enthusiastically welcomed back to the Hindutva fold by the former RSS chief K.S. Sudarshan at a function to launch Swamy's book, Hindus Under Siege, at the India International Centre. Since then he has been attacking Sonia Gandhi and her family, including her sisters.

SWAMY, as if to reaffirm his long lost Hindutva credentials, recently wrote a venomous newspaper article, 'How to wipe out Islamic terror', which sounded more like inflammatory communal propaganda inciting violence against a religion than any analysis: "Remove the masjid in Kashi Vishwanath temple and the 300 masjids at other temple sites รข€¦ Implement the uniform civil code, make learning of Sanskrit and singing of Vande Mataram mandatory, and declare India a Hindu Rashtra in which non-Hindus can vote only if they proudly acknowledge that their ancestors were Hindus. Rename India Hindustan as a nation of Hindus and those whose ancestors were Hindus."

To be fair to the man who now wants to steal the voting rights of the minorities, he has always been consistent in his opposition to the anti-Brahminical politics of Periyar in Tamil Nadu. When Jayalalithaa got the Kanchi Shankaracharya arrested for murder, Swamy defended the alleged murderer, which probably helped him build bridges with the RSS again. Right or wrong, reasonable or rabidly communal, Swamy always barges into the news rooms, grabbing eyeballs and headlines, shaping the agenda for the demise of yet another government.

Yet again Swamy exposes himself in the name of exposing 'Seedy' HM

When I first read this, I thought it to be a creation of Haindava Keralam portal. Further, I couldn't find this letter on Janataparty's website. But now Swamy himself approved it when someone on twitter brought this blogpost to his notice

S
wamy's epic rivalry with Chidambaram and his attempt to defraud Delhi HC are known ( Refer: http://knowyourswamy.blogspot.com/2011/09/swamy-vs-chidambaram-epic-rivalry.html). I keep searching for better words to describe Swamy's mental condition. But his own words and thoughts don't leave much for us to describe anything. So here goes Swamy's letter to PM on 'seedy' HM

Dr.Manmohan Singh,
Prime Minister
South Block,
New Delhi.

Dear Prime Minister:

I am happy that you finally acted and went over the head of your Home Minister P.Chidambaram (who malafide vacillated), to order the arrest of Joint Secretary in the Home Ministry Mr.Ravi Inder Singh IAS., for betraying the country.

It is now high time for you to consider all my earlier letters regarding Mr.Chidambaram, regarding his being guilty of conduct unbecoming of a Minister. I had written to you earlier about his visiting massage parlours in a seedy Government hotel where Uzbeki girls frequent, driving off in jeans and dark glasses without a driver or anyone else to Greater Kailash in New Delhi-- without informing anyone, and beating up a Times of India photographer for taking pictures of him late night in a Bangalore discotheque and thereby fracturing his own toe in the scuffle. You may also be aware of what I wrote to you about a lady IAS officer in Finance Ministry whose husband (also IAS) had requested her transfer of posting because she was being harassed.

I have been recently informed by my friends in London that the British Intelligence MI-6 had video photographed Mr.Chidambaram while he in the company of an escort service European girl provided by an Indian company with which he has had a formal fiduciary relation, as a paid Director. You also must know that his 2009 elections to Lok Sabha is a complete fraud. His certificate of election from the Returning Officer was extracted under duress by the DMK CM, Mr.Karunanidhi despite Mr.Chidambaram losing the election by 7000 votes to the AIADMK candidate.

But now, it is disturbing to learn that your Government has through Mr.Chidambaram conveyed approval to J&K CM Omar Abdullah to allow return from PoK of all those who had left the troubled State since 1989.

This is a dangerous step that seems to have been decided by a back channel person who has been hell bent on India parting with J&K by hook or crook. It seriously undermines and jeopardizes the national security of the nation. It will help the ISI of Pakistan to better co-ordinate subversive and terrorist activities in India. The agencies of Pakistan have been meeting Omar Abdullah in Dubai and London. I never thought this promising youngster will go to seed like this. Who has been the baneful influence on him? In any case, I urge you overturn this decision.

Most of all, as a safeguard, I urge you to obtain the resignation of Mr.Chidambaram because has de-facto become a national security risk. He has consistently failed to concentrate on the work of the Ministry.

Yours sincerely,

(SUBRAMANIAN SWAMY)
