Swamy tells him(Vajpayee) to desist from praising RSS!

Rediff, April 6, 1998:

Janata Party president Dr Subramanian Swamy on Sunday criticised Prime Minister A B Vajpayee for defending the Rashtriya Swayamsevek Sangh, and urged him and his Cabinet colleagues to desist from praising the organisation.

Talking to newsmen in Madras, he said Vajpayee's defence of the RSS would only imply that the government had a "hidden agenda". Moreover, it would also erode the authority of the prime minister's office.

If the prime minister, who heads a coalition government, praises the RSS, then others in the front have the right to criticise it for its negative role in the 1942 Quit India movement, the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi, subversion of the anti-Emergency struggle and the demolition of the Babri Masjid, he said.

Referring to the reported remarks of RSS general secretary H V Seshadri that the organisation would seek to remote-control the Vajpayee government, Dr Swamy said the RSS could not run a parallel government, and this was not acceptable.

Indian Express, April 20,1999: On Dr Swamy, he said he had submitted 20 pieces of circumstantial evidence to the Jain Commission, which went into the assassination of RajivGandhi, raising strong suspicion of the Janata Party chief's complicity in the murder of the former Prime Minister. The Jain Commission had also commented in its report that Dr Swamy did not cooperate with it. ``He (Dr Swamy) should be booked in public interest...He deserves to be arrested and investigated''.

He(Ram Jethmalani) should be dismissed and prosecuted!

Indian Express, Aug 30, 1998: "Since Jethmalani is promoting the cause of rich builders and estate agents at the cost of the poor masses, he should either step down from the minister's post or be dismissed by the Prime Minister. He should also be prosecuted under the Prevention of Corruption Act by the CBI,'' Swamy added. He also alleges that Jethmalani had committed an error of commission in the M S Shoes land scam, which necessitated a detailed investigation by the CBI. Jethmalani had reportedly passed an `unprecedented order' restoring the land worth Rs 350 crore to M S Shoes Ltd, owned by Pawan Sachdeva. Calling the BJP government "a disaster'', Swamy said Opposition secular forces would seek to form a government after the outcome of forthcoming Assembly elections in four states.

I am willing to work with him(Anna Hazare) minus his team!

Bhopal: Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy on Tuesday said he would like to welcome social activist Anna Hazare to work with him sans his team members. "I would like to work with Hazare but cannot think of working with Team Anna members," Swamy said during an informal interaction with reporters here. When asked by media persons if he would like to join the BJP to take on the Congress, Swamy quipped it was up to the party to decide whether they want him in or not. "I know that I am not an easy person to be tolerated by any political party," he quickly added. Subramanian Swamy sought to use the occasion of B.R. Ambedkar's birth anniversary celebration in New Delhi on April 14, when a book and a cassette on Mayawati were released, to persuade the Bahujan Samaj Party to go along with the rest of the Opposition. Subramanian Swamy called Kanshi Ram his guru and predicted that Mayawati would one day become Prime Minister. He claimed that he was invited to the function by BSP leaders, and that it was a signal that the BSP would vote against the Government.

'They (RSS) wanted to finish me off but I am indestructible!'

Why do you think the BJP has so much animus towards you?

I don't think it is the BJP, really. The BJP is only a front organisation. It is not a political party. It is really the RSS, and your question should be actually: Why is the RSS against me? Frankly, it's not surprising. We have been at daggers drawn ever since the members of theerstwhile Jan Singh flouted the oath they took in Rajghat in March 1977 that they would never leave the Janata Party -- and then, promptly, left the Janata Party and went on to form the Bharatiya Janata Party!

I did not follow them like cattle.This angered them. They have this culture that anyone who parts company with them must be driven out of public life. In fact, before they left they told me directly that they would do to me what they had done to Balraj Madhok, Manoharlal Sondhi, Pitambar Das and others -- they gave me a list of some seven names of people who were at the height of their power with them and were destroyed and driven out of public life. Well, they have been at it for the last 18 years and suddenly I cannot expect them to swallow all that and accept failure. And not only accept failure but also accommodate me as a Cabinet minister in their own government!

Why is your personal relationship with Vajpayee so bitter?

It has now improved. From reverse gear it has become neutral.

It is wrong to say that Vajpayee is bitterly against me. It is the RSS which is most bitterly against me. They want to finish me off. They don't realise that I am indestructible.
